In spring 2010 Commercial Marine and Piling successfully completed the construction of a rock breakwater in Lymington, Hampshire. The project was a great success, and involved CMP supplying around 9000 tonnes of limestone rock and placing within a steel piled cofferdam.
The cofferdam was piled using CMP’s Movax system. Arcelor AZ piles were driven into the bed using the Movax vibro system, then hammered using a 2 tonne hydraulic piling hammer.
Rock was then shipped from Southampton dock to Lymington using CMP’s flat top barges and tugs. Grab machines and rock handling excavators were then used to place the rock and form into the required shape.
The mound forms the first stage of a larger project intended for the future. At present this has been monitored.
